I also work with TI and it serves as my lab. The server is always on - 24x7 - and with all 8 bays occupied, I was tired of replacing regular PC WD 2 GBytes discs every month. After some tests with a couple of these Hitachi hard drives, I decided to replace all disks in my server. Couldn't be happier!The I/O is twice faster than before and no more disks dying all the time. The rebuilt of a 3 Tb disk in RAID 6 took no longer than 3 hours. Also they are very, very quite. If you need space and reliability, I couldn't find anything better. They weren't the cheapest, but they are a premium drive- and you can tell.* VERY, VERY quiet- I have to put my ear up to the running bare drive to tell it's on. I have never heard a drive this quiet, ever. * Very fast- I don't remember now (it's been a couple of weeks) exactly the stats of MB/Sec, but transferring the files from my old drive to this one was very fast, as it should be with a 64MB cache. * Also not very warm- it was just slightly warm to the touch, so it shouldn't be any problem in cases with a lot of drives. I hope these hold up like I'm expecting them to. I'm putting both in a 4-drive external tower to replace older/smaller/slower drives. |
