After a 15 minutes or so, the GPS locks and the system LED stops blinking red, and so all 4 LEDs are blue -- good to go? But I get no additional bars on my phone. I tried it out in my basement with the GPS antenna on the end of the extender cable. The GPS locked fine, but I got 0 bars and could not make a call. I called Verizon, and gave them the MAC address on the bottom of the unit. They said that they can not activate the unit because it is already activated by a current customer. Perhaps the unit is set to managed access mode by original owner and that is preventing my phone from associating? My impression from Samsung's user-manual was that even if managed mode were activated, an un-managed phone should still be able to get in, but perhaps not... First, it requires a GPS signal every time it's powered on. Getting a GPS signal inside a house or apartment can be impossible. They include a 20 foot extension cable for the antenna, which I had to run out into the back yard to get a fix. I'm not looking forward to doing this every time the surge protector gets turned off or we have a power outage. Second, the extender doesn't help with picture messages. This is because it doesn't provide a data connection, just voice and SMS service. A data connection is required for picture messages (WiFi doesn't help.) It has to connect to a tower outside your house for picture messages. Con: - No instruction manual (just google it). - Only 90-day warranty. - The unit seems to run really hot. - I called Verizon in order to activate the unit. You are supposed to give the MAC address of the device to Verizon so they can attach it to your account (so you can manage the authorized users via verizonwireless.com). Turns out this unit, it is a refurb afterall, was registered to another person's active Verizon account. The rep can't switch over who it is activated to without the other account holder's approval.
